Pirates Plussing, MIC Key™ Snaps, V1 I1

Taken in 2009 at Disney’s private island Castaway Cay, this snap showcases a Pirates of the Caribbean movie prop ship anchored next to the Disney Wonder cruise ship. Walt Disney has a history of what he called ‘plussing.’ Walt always wanted the CONTEXT of the experience to deliver more than the guest expected. The addition of this Flying Dutchman prop definitely plussed the cruise experience. It was unexpected, exciting and memorable; especially considering the popularity of the Pirates films at the time. It would have been easier for Disney to abandon the movie prop once filming was complete. But, abandonment would have wasted an opportunity. Disney instead brought the ship to its private island for a memorable ‘plus.’

What about you? You may not have a popular movie pirate ship at your disposal, but there must be ways you can ‘plus’ the CONTEXT for your guests. If you’re saying a hearty pirates’ “Arrrah” then get to work me matey. Give all you can to your customers and leave nothing back.
