Painting the Street with Magic, MIC Key™ Snaps, V1 I3

Bert, the chimney sweep turned chalk artist in the classic Disney film Mary Poppins has nothing on this guy. This snap, snapped in the morning before Main Street, U.S.A. was overrun with crowds, catches a Magic Kingdom custodian creating his own special Disney magic. The street is clean. His task is done, but he's not hiding. He's gone artsy.

The custodian knows, of course, that the task he is responsible for is keeping the street clean. But he also knows that his Purpose in keeping the street clean is to make people happy. That's why, when there is nothing to clean, he turns into a street painter.

It's all in Disney's MESSAGE. Walt once described himself as a "happy ending guy" and explained that, in the words from the musical No, No Nanette, "I want to be happy, but I won't be happy, until you're happy too."

The custodian knows that clean streets mean happy guests. He also knows that, even though his assigned task is done, his goal of happiness never stops. So, he won't be happy until his guests are happy too.

What about you and your organization? Do your people focus on tasks to be completed or Purpose to be served? If you focus your organization on tasks, you'll likely get those tasks done, but not much else. If you instead focus on Purpose, magical things can happen. Who knows what artists are hiding in your organization and what kind of magic spells they can cast for your customers.
