Creating Disney's Ultimate Comfort Food, MIC Key™ Snaps, V3 I18

Since the start of the COVID 19 crisis, Disney has been finding new and unique ways to reach out and comfort its customers. The Dapper Dans, the Voices of Liberty and Mariachi Cobre have all performed virtually. Additionally, attractions, included Expedition Everest, have been filmed and Disney parks president Josh D’Amaro recorded a video where fans could listen to the background music from Disney's Hollywood Studios. The Mouse has also released recipes for some of its favorite food items including, most recently, its recipe for mac and cheese showcased in this snap, courtesy ZiggyKnowsDisney.com.

This sharing reminded me of a time several years ago when Walt Disney World decided to identify an "official" mac and cheese recipe. The process it used to develop that recipe is interesting.

First, they started with their chefs. Those chefs made their own delicious versions. Then Disney culinary leadership turned to their customers: but not just any customers, the children. They set up stands in the Land Pavilion at Epcot and invited the kids to try the different chef created recipes. The kids eagerly voted with their stomachs. The winning recipe then became Walt Disney World’s official mac and cheese recipe (specialty restaurants still create unique recipes).

Want your products to cater to your customers’ tastes? It’s pretty simple to do. Just involve them in your product decisions. Granted, that requires the extra effort to engage directly instead of making corporate conference room decisions. The customer feedback is sometime uncomfortable, but it’s the best comfort food you can consume.
