In a prior snap, we learned how Walt Disney World celebrated the milestone of forty years of Hoop Dee Doo Musical Review shows by honoring the original performers who made that show happen.

Recently, Walt Disney World began it’s 50th anniversary celebration: World opened it’s doors on October 1, 1971. Big things like fireworks, performances by Christina Aguilera and Halle Bailey, and ceremonies honoring deserving leaders—George Kalogridis, for instance, got his own window on Main Street USA—happened. Small things happened too.

At Casey’s Corner, on Main Street, USA in the Magic Kingdom, the much-loved ragtime piano performances returned. But, in a special twist reported by www.magic.com, the pianist on October 1st was Randy Morris. He, in 1971, at 19 years of age, was the opening day pianist. His presence on the 50th anniversary of that opening day is an example of how the Mouse celebrates not just the big things, and not just its successful leaders, but also its front-line people.

Celebrating the people who made the magic happen is a key point. As Walt said, “You can dream, create, design and build the most wonderful place in the world ... but it requires people to make the dream a reality.” Without those who perform roles in the show, all you have are buildings. It’s the people like Randy, and countless other individuals, who bring that show to life. They should be celebrated too.

Do you honor your past employees? You should. It’s a twofer. Not only are you recognizing those who previously served. You also communicate to those who currently serve that they are important to you too; and not just now, but 50 years from now.
